Two Guys, a Girl and a TV Set

Three college friends out in the world, filling the void with television…and loving it.

New on Wednesdays this Fall (sitcoms)

Posted by Mr. Feeny on August 25, 2009

Wednesday’s packed with new goodies, so I decided to split it into two separate previews. Today is just the comedies, which are all actually on ABC. Their premieres are staggered, but by the end of September, the Alphabet will have a brand new primetime Wednesday.

The first hour displays an interesting television flowchart. Two great comedic actors star in huge hits shows, one on CBS and one on NBC. They combine forces on a failed show on FOX. And now they both have gone their separate ways again, only to land on the same 4th network, ABC. I wonder if this will teach Kelsey that he can only play Frasier, and teach Patricia she’s only Ray’s wife. That said, I love them both…especially since they’re two of the few conservative actors in Hollywood. But no need to go down that road.

As a side observation…isn’t it interesting how none of the networks try to compete on comedies? NBC’s got Thursday, CBS has Monday, FOX takes Sunday (and an hour Friday) and now ABC comes in on Wednesday. Maybe those NBC execs have something with this comedic option (Leno) every day at 9. Although there is one hour of competition, now. CBS and ABC will go head-to-head Wednesdays 7-8 with Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Jay Mohr challenging Kelsey Grammar and Patricia Heaton. A battle of heavyweights…all with lackluster shows.

And as a note…when I say “Family sitcom”, I don’t mean it’s appropriate for the whole family. Just that that’s what it’s about. I don’t want a gang of angry moms crashing the blog.

It all looks like a mish mash of other sitcoms.
Nothing really new or original here, why bother?

Yah I agree. Nothing here looks new/exciting.
