The Quotable Office (S6:E1)

Sitcom’s don’t often get episode-by-episode reviews. They’re more about the humor than a progressing storyline. So, I’m proposing we just make a short post every week for the sitcoms we follow. A brief summary, a quick analysis, and then the Top 3 Jokes/Gags. I haven’t discussed this with Cregg or the somewhat invisible Moltisanti, but I’m going to test it out here with the premiere of The Office.
“Gossip” (The Office – S6:E1)
Plot Summary: Michael gets caught up in office gossip, only to find out that one of his employees (Stanley) is having an affair…and he’s been sworn to secrecy. So he starts to spread false gossip to hide it.
Great Moment: When Jim sternly told Michael he needed to stop gossiping. Jim’s taken on more of a forceful role as the seasons have progressed, rather than just sitting back and enjoying the mayhem. And it works perfectly. And forces Michael to consider consequences. And then he later saved Stanley’s reputation. A+ for Jim.
Top 3 Jokes/Gags:
- Michael: “Stanley is having a mid-life crisis” Dwight: “Stanley is way past the middle of his life. Especially considering his height-to-weight ratio.”
- Andy: “Let me give you a scenario. I’m at a beach and Brad Pitt approaches and leans in to try and kiss me. I would definitely resist, like, at first. But if he were persistent, I might give in a little bit, just to see what it felt like. Would I push away? How hard? What if he’s really aggressive.” Oscar: (later) “What exactly is my responsibility here? To comfort insecure heterosexual men? That can’t possibly fall to me.”
- Michael, Dwight and Andy randomly throwing themselves against walls to open the episode, while yelling “Parkour!”…the ending clinched it as Andy jumped into a box from the roof.
Episode Grade: B+
