Definitions: How I Met Your Mother (S5: E1)

The fabulous fivesome of Barney, Robin, Ted, Lily, and Marshall returned to the air this week to kick off season 5 of How I Met your Mother on CBS.
Plot Summary: Ted teaches his first architecture class at Columbia, while Lily locks Robin and Barney in Robin’s bedroom to force them to define their relationship. Barney and Robin ultimately decide to lie to Lily and tell her they are boyfriend/girlfriend so she’ll let them out. Turns out they only think they’re lying.
What we learn about the mother: She’s in Ted’s class. And she’s not the blonde girl raising her hand. (We also learn that bacon solves all of life’s problems, but that’s another issue for another time.) (We also also learn to always have a safe word. Flugelhorn!)
Best moment: Ted starts his class by writing “Professor Mosby” on the board, but as he does, he cannot remember whether “professor” has 1 “F” or 2. He also struggles to decide what kind of prof he wants to be, the authoritative or cool, friendly type. So he opens his class by saying, “Good morning. ‘Sup Dudes? SILENCE!”

3) Barney: “The rules for girls are the same as the rules for gremlins.” –Barney explains to Ted why you never have breakfast with girls or let them see you during the day.
All in all, I would not say this episode was the best I’ve seen of this show (it’s no “Naked Man”), but I did laugh out loud during Ted’s professorial scenes. And at the end of the day, I’m very happy to have the gang back. I’ve missed them.
