Weekly Ratings Review: Sept 21-28

Posted by Mr. Feeny on September 29, 2009

Here’s some quick facts about this past week in television, which was mostly a premiere week.

  • The NCISes absolutely dominated. The original series was the only show to top 20 million viewers, while its spin-off, NCIS:LA, lost only a couple million. They finished #1/2 on the week.
  • The men on Dancing with the Stars must have a much greater appeal this season, as their Monday night performances drew 2 million more viewers than the ladies or the results show. Of course, it was also the premiere. Dancing finished 3rd.
  • Some old standbys did extremely well in their first week: House #5, Grey’s Anatomy #6, CSI #7, Criminal Minds #8…with more CBS procedurals at #s 11, 12 and 14 (and 60 Minutes at #13). So CBS had 9 of the Top 15 shows. Dominance.
  • One of those nine was the highest rated new show: The Good Wife. It finished #15 with 13.7 million viewers. The only other Top 20 new show was Modern Family at #20.
  • Only 2 half-hour sitcoms made the list: Two and a Half Men (#17) and The Big Bang Theory (#19).
  • On Cable, once you remove all the sporting events…and WWE…Monk was the top finisher (#4 overall) with 4.7 million viewers. Most of the rest are Disney or Nickelodeon shows. Though two NCIS reruns on USA make the Top 20. And Lifetime’s Army Wives at #16.
